In Hawai‘i there is an incredible demand for Certified Substance Abuse Counselors (CSAC) to help meet the needs that many of our communities are facing.
SACs are educated and qualified to provide assessment, counseling, case management and client education to persons suffering with substance abuse or dependency issues.
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council provides support services to individuals seeking to become a CSAC or those wishing to get recertified. BISAC offers opportunities for educational hours needed for CSAC certification and/or recertification (e.g. face-to-face hours and distance learning credits).
BISAC offers ADAD approved courses, which include,
- Motivational Interviewing Basics and Application
- Compassion Fatigue. Helping the Helpers
- Suicide Prevention and Application
- How to Facilitate Groups
- Assessments
- Strength Based Therapy and Positive Thinking
- Grief and Loss
- Basic Counseling Skills and Application
- The Basics of CBT
- Interpretive Summary
Each course is four hours long and costs $40 each.
It is the responsibility of all applicants to work with the State Agency in seeking their CSAC certification to ensure that they meet the requirements needed.
